Is it a hare's ear? Or a woolly bugger? Maybe its a crayfish? At the end of the day, it's big, it's nasty and it catches fish - bass, trout, carp, panfish - anything that likes a big buggy meal.
Perdigon variants in multiple colours are a great go-to for euro-nymphing in both local waters, and those further afield. Tungsten gets you down quick and the glossy body has the extra bit of flash to get the trout's attention.
This beadhead variation of the classic hare's ear adds a bit of red for a little extra fish catching colour. Play around with colours if fish are being picky, sometimes something a little different makes all the difference!
This is a great, and very effective euro-nymph, but don't let that limit you - you can fish the tungsten jig napoleon just as effectively under an indicator, no euro-gear required!
While it might be a little strange looking, this classic little fly accounts for a lot of steelhead on the great lakes! Great through the winter into early spring especially!
An absolute classic nymph pattern. Works well in just about any water body with mayflies, or pale aquatic insects and catches a wide variety of species.
