Beaver River 

The Beaver River is a tributary of the southern portion of Georgian Bay. It runs through both Grey and Simcoe counties, emptying into the bay at the town of Thornberry.

The Beaver is well known for its resident brook, rainbow and brown trout, as well as naturally reproducing populations of salmon and steelhead. There is an extended season on a short section of river downstream from the dam in downtown Thornbury. Fish stocking does not take place on this river, the fish here are all naturally reproducing.

The upper Beaver River is a classic Niagara Escarpment river - cold, clear water running through limestone and often densely wooded making for challenging but productive fishing. There are a number of spectacular waterfalls as the river tumbles off the escarpment - please exercise caution and respect any signage if you are fishing within the vicinity of these falls.

If you choose to fish any of the cold water sections upstream of Thornbury, please be aware and respectful of private property and make sure to get permission from landowners or stick to public sections.

Please practice catch & release as angling pressure continues to increase
due to population growth in the area.
