Who We are Looking For:


The days of stiff, staunch, and uptight fly shops are over!  We’re looking for candidates that bring a breath of fresh air to fly fishing, who are open minded, accepting, customer service focused, and always willing to learn and teach.

  • Inviting, friendly, fun and energetic personality, creating a great, welcoming and safe space in our shop for customers and staff
  • An open minded attitude, with a deep desire to learn about and teach all things related to fly
  • Serve as a brand ambassador and lead by example in a fast-paced retail environment
  • The ability to engage and assist with customers, knowledgably suggesting products that will fit their needs and budget
  • Strong computer skills and use of other technology including smart devices and apps
  • Independent workers who can adapt and learn on the fly
  • Reliability and responsibility to open and close the store
  • Visual merchandising skills and creativity is a plus
  • Previous retail or hospitality experience is preferred, but not necessary
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, reaching high and crouching low, with long durations spent standing in retail environment

An understanding of fly fishing is required and a basic knowledge of the local fisheries is preferred. 
 
We have a small crew at Drift Outfitters, while employees do have defined rolls and responsibilities we are looking for candidates who will be able to assist across the shop in all duties when needed, including the maintenance and cleaning of the shop.


Position Description & Expanded Rolls:


Responsibilities:

  • Assisting and advising customers on products in-shop, by phone and email
  • Stocking and maintaining store inventory
  • Ecommerce/webstore maintenance and management
  • Merchandising, cleaning and organizing the store, bathrooms or backroom
  • Tagging/pricing inventory
  • Other general store maintenance
  • Event assistance

While most duties are within the shop at 199 Queen St. East, we also host off-site events within and out of Toronto. Preference for hiring will be candidates who will take on expanded rolls detailed below.

Social Media Manager & Content Creator
We’re in need of an individual to take the reigns on our social media platforms, capturing, creating, posting, scheduling and organizing content.
 
Event Planning & Hosting
Drift Outfitters hosts numerous community events, including film festivals, demo days, and more.  We are looking for someone to take on the task of event planning, execution, and hosting.
 
Fly Fishing, Fly Casting, Centrepin, & Fly Tying Instructor
Student and customer education is a fundamental part of fly shops.  If you’re currently skilled to teach lessons, great, if you’re interested in teaching lessons of any sort, we can educate and train to get you there.
 
Inventory Management, Ordering, Analytics
With over 10,600 unique items in our shop (and growing), and over 42,500 individual items in-stock, inventory management is a big part of our day-to-day work.  We utilize an advanced, powerful stock and Point of Sale system to receive, order and track inventory.  Interested in taking this task on?  Let’s talk.
