While we will offer hands-on training in the shop, we expect any new hire to have the following skills and knowledge, along with being a proficient fly angler, before starting to work with us:

· Understanding of fly fishing equipment and how it works

· Understanding of appropriate equipment to match opportunity and species

· Understanding of Spey and switch rods and line choice

· Local angling opportunities

· Fly selection per species – local and abroad

· Knot Tying – fly fishing related

· Basic understanding of fly tying and simple patterns

· Proficient understanding of Ontario’s fishing regulations

· Computer literate and proficient

This job is not about standing around all day chatting about fishing, if this is your expectation please think twice about applying and sending in your resume. Drift Outfitters is an extremely busy fly shop, even when there are no customers in the shop there are many duties and tasks to quickly, thoroughly, and diligently complete. All of our employees must demonstrate exceptional behavior not only in the shop, but on the water as well as - you must be a great ambassador for the sport and the shop at all times.

Drift Outfitters not only sells fly fishing gear, we are an educational hub. Our goal is for everyone who walks out of our doors to walk away with a great experience whether they are new to fly fishing, a seasoned vet, or if they have purchased goods or not. Key traits of all employees of Drift Outfitters are love for the sport of fly fishing, a passion to educate, you must be outgoing, approachable, positive, upbeat and energetic, accepting of others whether they are fly anglers or not, and a willingness to learn, and adapt to our customers’ needs, and to go the extra mile.

Compensation – this is completely dependent on the level of knowledge the applicant does have and any previous experience in a customer service roll and work in a retail environment. Our starting rate is $15/hour. Along with monetary compensation the job offers access to our staff purchasing policy.

We are looking for employees for part-time availability for weekdays and weekends.
